I got the opportunity to run this workshop again this week at The Tetley. The participants didn’t disappoint with their creations, and I really enjoyed seeing the stories come together and the magical worlds that were created.
I learnt all about Pokemon as I was very privileged to help a young boy piece together his story from the roll of the story cubes.
We had dancing aliens, otters, red fire engines, flowers, palm trees, dinosaurs, a leopard called Samantha, a new version of the hungry caterpillar and so many more.
I had such wonderful feedback, story telling, and creating worlds and tales seem to be a huge hit for the families – yes, even parents got involved!
Below are a selection of images and a couple of the book stories in full. I wish I had taken photos of all the books this way last time.
Once there was an alien called Fred. He like to dance.
He’d do the Charleston, he’d do Ballet.
He’d do hip-hop, and his favourite was the martian hoola.
His least favourite was the double dutch. His Grandma, Caris, dances as well.
She’d do the boom bat, ama touch it. And the big eye no…
…ears dance. The danced together.
They lived on planet Dewi. They loved their life.
I love my Dewi life.
The End
The Otter (Dictated by the author to her father)
The Otter
Once upon a time there was a little otter
One morning she woke up and the little otter looked out of the window
She thought it would be a nice day to go out. So that’s what the otter did.
So the otter called her round. The otter and her friend played ball.
Then the otter and her friend played hula hoops.
The otter said she was hungry, “Let’s go for lunch”, said her friend.
“Yes”, said the otter.
What they had for lunch was baked beans and pasta.
After lunch they went out and did story in a box.
Then they went home and read their story in a box. After that they had tea.
Then the otter waved bye-bye to her friend.
Then the otter brushed her teeth. Then the otter watched a bit of telly.
Then she went upstairs and went to the loo.
Then she read a story. And then she went to bed. The end.
ZZZZzzzzz. The end.
The Hungry Caterpillar
(New version)
The Hungry Caterpillar
The caterpillar was born in an egg.
The caterpillar emerges.
The caterpillar basks in the sun
But the caterpillar is hungry. It eats a strawberry.
And a watermelon.
And a rainbow cupcake.
And a pumpkin.
And eggs and bacon.
And toast with strawberry jam.
And the caterpillar turned into a chrysalis.
And the caterpillar emerged as a beautiful butterfly.
The Sad Sheep (I created my own book, with a variety of different ways to illustrate. It’s an example of what could be done, rather than my skills as an illustrator)
